‘Untitled’
Our meeting with Jon Janes of The Mountains and the Trees took us north of the River; the free-flowing Camden Lock presenting the scenic backdrop and harmonizing acoustic for this beautiful performance of a new untitled track. Shaped by time and place and made up by any number of individuals (audience members are not excluded), the band are in the UK for the first time leaving their roots in a small community of just 3000 people in New Foundland, Canada. The embryonic nature of the band is understood as Janes reveals, of his home, “there are dozens of musicians willing to get together to play a show at any given time just for the love of playing music”. By the time we manage to tie them down, the group had already ventured to Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds and are now warming up for a gig in London by hopping across the border for a few dates in Scotland. “So I bought a ticket to England, thinking this is my chance to start again” sings Janes in More & More & More; we sincerely hope it works out.
See The Mountains and the Trees at The Slaughtered Lamb in Great Sutton Street, Clerkenwell (between Old Street and Farringdon) on June 14th. The band will be returning for an appearance at the Brixton Windmill in September.
