Brixton Sessions

‘Dust Bird Baths’

‘Wireless’

Recorded on a day with some incredible talent knocking around Brixton, Bristol/Melbourne based band, The Balky Mule offered some beautiful whispering music which more than held its own. Playing near the old Windmill with a Clarinet, Jeffery Lewis’ acoustic guitar and a skate helmet for a drum, the band performed two tracks that chilled out the Brixton Sessions beautifully.

Sam Jones, the incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist at the centre of The Balky Mule has now found residence in the sunny climate of Melbourne, Australia after a decade kicking round Bristol as part of the post-rock scene.

The name The Balky Mule encompasses all of Sam’s varied recordings over the last ten years. The band has a home-made, outsiders sort of feel, a demo recording, a compilation mix tape that you play to death.

The Balky Mule’s new album ‘The Length of the Rail’ was released on FatCat in March 2009. Check them out please.

“Idiosyncratic and enchanting, this is a really great little album that commands and rewards repeated listening.” Taken from Fat Cat Records website.

We would love to have the Balky Mule back this way and hope you enjoy the session.
