Brixton Sessions

‘I Found You’

‘For Esperanza’

Brixton Sessions followed Jacques Labouchere to two locations for this week’s performances. One, a high-rise rooftop with stunning views across the city. The other, a pile of rubbish. No, literally.

Although born in the USA and currently residing in Sweden, it wasn’t the first time Jacques had passed through the streets of Brixton. Leaving America in his late teens, Jacques spent a few years squatting in our South London borough during the ‘90s, experimenting with “psychedelics and music”, and busking on the streets. And whilst the psychedelics appeared to have been abandoned, there was still plenty of decent music on offer, with Jacques’ organic sound echoing those early street performances that were ultimately the making of his talent.

Despite the fact that Jacques is diagnosed as a sufferer of bi-polar disorder, he has recently found much joy in a new love and the birth of a new baby daughter – experiences that are all woven together into the very fabric of his latest recently released album ‘Bi-Polar Baby Strollers’ (Popjinx Records)

“My songs are about love, loss, loneliness, togetherness, family (daughter, sisters, friends), and the bi-polar disorder, which I have suffered or prospered (depends how you look at it) from since the age of 20″

At times joyous, at times a passionate plea, Bi-polar Baby Strollers is an honest, vulnerable and emotional mirror to Jacques’ personal, Wildean journey. Listen, engage, enjoy.
