After shifting out of the Hold Steady in 2010 everyone was pretty excited to see the New York Maesto’s solo performances, and here there was no hint of disappointment. The storytelling songwriter looked at home in the low light of South London, as we perched on the benches outside The Windmill to give the Brixton residents something to enjoy. Time was tight and we had less than twenty minutes with the man himself, however after a quick vocal warm and a few notes on the accordion we went for it. The volume of the man’s voice is just incredible and underestimated by our sound recorder. This is our only accordion based session to date, and we think it speaks for itself. His favorite brand of moustache wax is Cowboy Stache Wax, from Montana
